#GivingTuesday #GivingWaypointGear

The #GivingTuesday movement is making big waves across the country. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving every year, the generosity of individuals and organizations is bringing positive change to communities and families. Last year alone raised over $106M nationwide to support organizations in need!

#GivingTuesday is taking place on Nov 29th this year. #GivingWaypointGear is our campaign to meet the needs of our participants with disabilities by providing the equipment that makes these adventures accessible and impactful. We are currently in urgent need of the equipment listed below.

From now through #GivingTuesday on November 29, would you please consider (1) Spreading the word about #GivingWaypointGear and (2) Helping us meet our goal of purchasing the gear below! Make a donation here (www.waypointadventure.org/donate) and put “Giving Waypoint Gear” in the memo line.

Why canoes!? Currently, Waypoint is able to run water-sport activities through kayaking, but there remain people we can’t serve because they’re unable to get in or out of a kayak; nor are kayaks appropriate for overnight trips. Canoes have several advantages:

  1. Their larger carrying capacity supports overnight or longer duration trips
  2. Canoes can carry a participant’s wheelchair or other mobility assistance devices
  3. Higher seats make for easier transfer to and from a wheelchair
  4. Straighter seating is easier for individuals with inflexible legs
  5. A wide variety of adaptive seats are available to accommodate participants

Pictured above is Waypoint’s sole canoe-expedition to date through a partnership with La Vida using borrowed canoes. Canoes will allow us to meet our goal of running more multi-day and overnight programs like this one in the Adirondacks (2014) through which individuals were transformed! Canoeing expeditions give more opportunity to form bonds, re-enforce learning, and reach goals. Please consider donating to make this possible!
